Purederm Clean & Fresh Peeling Gel

December 09, 2013
Hello lovelies! Sorry if I've been MIA for a while, but I just got back earlier this week from a six day press trip in Guam. Prior to leaving and just after arriving I've been crazy busy with work so there was simply no time for any blog updates. Things have thankfully settled down now a bit so I can go back to my regular blogging duties!

I'll be reviewing something I actually just picked up at the mall the other day, which is Purederm's Clean & Fresh Peeling Gel (Php99.00).

Product description:
Purederm Clean & Fresh Peeling Gel formulated with Apple, Lemon & Orange Extract deeply cleans pores, gently exfoliates, removes dead skin cells and refines skin surface. Skin is healthy looking and refreshed.
I love peeling gels in general, especially since I have combination skin because they really help with my dry areas like my cheeks and chin. I also love how they just make my skin feel so wonderfully smooth and clean after. This one from Purederm comes packaged almost like a juice pack. I'll give it a point for unique packaging, I suppose.

The product is dispensed via a nozzle with a twist-off cap. It's easy to control how much product comes out, though it starts to become a bit of a hassle once you start running low and you need to repeatedly press and squeeze around the container to get any remaining product out.

The consistency and texture of the product is similar to a lot of other other peeling gels. I like how it's not too runny and the scent is really light, so even if you don't like skin care product with fragrance, this shouldn't bother you too much. It's also easy to spread around and massage onto your skin.

If you're not familiar with how peeling gels work, they basically exfoliate your skin by removing or 'peeling away' dead or old skin cells, which are those little white clumps you see on my hand that formed after I started to massage the gel onto my skin. If I'm not mistaken, the clumps are not always 100% dead or old skin, but a mix of the peeling gel and skin that's been removed or exfoliated.

As you can see, the gel did a decent job and produced a fair amount of those clumps which means it was definitely doing some exfoliating. On my hand, at least. Basically I'm not entirely impressed since I've tried a number of other peeling gels which I found a lot more effective. When I massage this onto my face, using it about 2-3 times a week, it doesn't exfoliate...consistently, if that makes sense. For example, on one cheek it produces more clumps than on the other. Then on my forehead, sometimes just very little. It seems to vary each time I use it. Compared to my current favorite peeling gel, the Natural Aqua Gel from Cure, the Cure one provides more consistent exfoliation and produces more clumps overall which I can only assume means it's doing a better job. Maybe the Purederm formula is just on the weak side? I also find that even if my skin definitely feels smoother and cleaner after using this, it's still not quite as heavenly smooth as when I use my Cure gel. I haven't noticed any difference in the cleanliness of my pores either as my nasty blackheads are unfortunately still around.

However, this product is very affordable at less than 100 pesos (or less than $2), so I guess this would be good enough for those who are looking for more budget-friendly peeling gel alternatives, especially since the likes of Cure gel are on the pricey side. In the end I still say this could be worth a try, particularly if you'd rather not spend 1,000 pesos or more on a product like this or if you're new to peeling gels and want to test out different different brands.

WHAT I LIKE:
  • Affordable.
  • Lightly scented.
  • Makes my skin feel a little smoother and cleaner after use.
WHAT I DON'T LIKE:
  • Doesn't exfoliate consistently or as effectively as other peeling gels I've tried.
  • I haven't noticed any improvement in my pores' cleanliness.
