Dear Beauté Himawari Oil In Shampoo and Conditioner (Volume & Repair)

When I was living in Tokyo, I observed a commonality among a lot of Japanese women: their hair tended to look really healthy and shiny. I rarely saw any of them with hair that looked dry or frizzy, even if many Japanese women regularly color their hair and use heat-styling tools everyday.

I then concluded that it must be their hair care products! Aside from the different hair serums and masks, even their regular shampoos and conditioners play a huge part. After all, it is the basis of hair care. One brand I saw almost everywhere and noticed was quite popular were the Dear Beauté Himawari shampoos and conditioners. Not surprising since, in Japan, they're pretty affordable too.

This particular set is their Volume & Repair line meant for limp, dry hair. They do have one another 'regular' variant for dry, frizzy hair as well. Now, my hair is thick, dry, and frizzy so it seems the latter would suit me better, but since I cut my hair quite short I realized I do need more volume in my hair to compliment its length.

When it comes to styling my hair, I like to keep things pretty low key. I either straighten my hair or curl it. That's the extent of my styling, aside from choosing whether to keep it down or settle for some form of an up-do. If it isn't styled, then it's in a no-fuss ponytail.

Choosing hair styling tools can be a bit of a chore though. Since my hair is really thick, I need tools that can heat up to at least 180 degrees or more. Any lower and it won't do much to my hair nor will the curls or straightened locks last long enough, especially in this country's humidity, before my hair reverts back to its natural state.
